What can you say about Åsa, other than she is incredible? Coming from a first time father (and mother) I really didn’t know what to expect, or what I was doing. I knew the basics, contractions, water will break, I will get yelled at for doing nothing and oh, my wife will be in pain; but at the end of all of this, there will be a baby. How much could a Doula really help? Well let me just tell you, I would NEVER have another baby without one.
We had a fairly long labor (26.5hrs), my wife had a great deal of back pain due to a sub optimal position of the child. Åsa had all sorts of tricks in her bag to help the baby turn, and for counter pressure pain relief. She was with us for every minute of the labor.
Åsa has been phenomenal at phone support both pre and post birth. Her lactation help and general knowledge of medicine has been a godsend. She has a rolodex of resources and remedies that we otherwise would have been lost to us. She is constantly checking in with us even a month after the birth, her genuine personality is second to none.
If you are a soon to be father reading this, I can only say to you, hire a doula for your partner. It’s the best gift you can give to the mother of your child. It will make the labor process much more bearable for both you and her. As I said, I had no idea what I was doing, but Åsa sure did and she guided every step of the way. Åsa consistently addressed our concerns and shortfalls with evidence based medicine and anecdotal details that eased our fears and anxieties. There is so much more to a birth than the basics, its a really complicated process.
I wish I had more than 2,000 characters to rave about the extraordinary service that we received and continue to enjoy. I will leave you with this, hiring a doula is a low risk high reward situation, she is only there to help and you will be happy you chose her…..Oh and make sure you utilize the TENS unit she has!
